After the abolishment of textile quotas in 2005 and joining the WTO in 2007, Vietnam became the sixth largest exporter for clothing, textiles and apparel worldwide.
There are approx. 2000 suppliers for textiles and clothing and quite a number of them have invested in a vertical set up. The product range covers most of Ladies and Men’s fashion items in woven and knit materials.
Due to the high quality standards and skilled work force Vietnam is referred to as
'The Tailor of Asia’ !
Shoes
Vietnam has become one of the biggest shoe producers worldwide, ranking third after China and India. The EU is Vietnam's largest export market – mainly for sports- and leisure shoes which are manufactured in about 750 production lines for all the big brand names and retailers.
Exports to the EU remain big as Vietnam-made apparel and shoes can enjoy preferences under the framework of the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP)
